Band celebrates 25 years

On June 25th The Bury St Edmunds Concert celebrates its 25th Anniversary at the New Green Community Centre in Thurston. The band was formed in 1991 by local school teacher Bryan Dalton for musicians to get together and play occasionally. Over the years the band started to play free concerts in Abbey Gardens and Nowton Park and to this day still do.

The band has grown over the years and currently boasts over 45 members performing at local venues such as the Theatre Royal, The Apex and Ickworth House.

As part of the celebrations the band is holding a reunion weekend on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June. On Saturday the band would like to welcome all current and previous members of the band to an evening social event at the New Green Community Centre in Thurston from 7:30pm. On Sunday 26th the band have an organised “play in” for all ex members to come back and play again with the band from 10am at the New Green Community Centre in Thurston. The hope is that in the afternoon the full band will perform for free in Abbey Gardens from 2:30pm.

Current Director of Music Rob Head commented “It is a real privilege to conduct the band in its 25th year and I am hoping that a lot of ex members decide to come back for this weekend and reminisce, share stories and play again as a band”
