The Bury St Edmunds Concert Band comprises some 50 talented amateur musicians, with members’ ages ranging from their early 20’s through to retirees.
Our musicians play a full range of woodwind and brass instruments, ranging from the smallest (piccolo) through to the largest (tuba, or bass as it is sometimes known), all backed up by a strong percussion section. All of our players have undertaken a recognised programme of musical training, and demonstrate a high degree of proficiency with their chosen instrument, taking pride in delivering outstanding music at every performance.
We aim to present around a dozen public performances each year, including free-to-all summer concerts in Bury St Edmunds’ renowned Abbey Gardens.
The Bury St Edmunds Concert Band is a registered charity and part of its objectives is to support other charities. Many of our concerts are fund-raisers for charities and in recent years we have raised over £30,000 for the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds, £25,000 for the National Trust and over £10,000 for other local charities and schools.
As a full band or with smaller ensembles. we perform a variety of engagements throughout the year which include charity fundraisers, weddings, private functions, village and church events.
